Houston's diversity is celebrated here. No matter what your background, our teams will help you navigate this emotionally challenging stage of life.

Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home

Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral HomeThe chapel at Forest Park Westheimer is a traditional space with pews that seat approximately 250 guests. This non-denominational chapel features a towering A-frame vaulted ceiling and a large stained-glass window that fits perfectly into the triangular roof line.

A private viewing room, located next to the chapel, is available to family members and invited guests who desire a quiet place to remember and reflect on a loved one’s life.

Our dedicated funeral directors can find inspiration almost anywhere—a favorite song, hobby, or even an iconic style, for example—and turn that inspiration into a funeral service filled with thoughtful and meaningful details. Celebrations could include a loved one’s passion for boating or cooking special meals for family and friends. There’s no limit to the special tribute we can create.

Whether the plan includes a traditional funeral, a customized memorial service or even a transfer to anywhere in the world, it’s our honor to help families arrange a celebration that reflects the personality and passions of their loved one or themselves.

History

Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery has been a part of the Houston community since 1956. Our cemetery, then called Calvary Cemetery, originally began as a Catholic cemetery blessed by the Houston-Galveston archdiocese. Today, we are no longer exclusively Catholic and serve all religions, traditions and cultures.

Founded by James Forbis Eubanks, Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery was located on a little 2-lane road surrounded by cattle fields. As Houston grew around it, the cemetery became the most convenient and centralized cemetery in the western part of the city.

In 1976, a funeral home was constructed at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

Over the years, we looked for opportunities to better serve the large and vibrant Asian community in Houston. We were delighted when we saw the chance to create a funeral home and cemetery space like no other. Our teams consulted with a feng shui master and architect to create the Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park and Garden of Eternal Peace at Forest Park.

Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery

The 126-acre cemetery, founded in 1956, offers those who come to honor loved ones a peaceful place of remembrance. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Houston, the cemetery has palms, live oaks and evergreens—the shade they provide is much appreciated on hot summer days. The well-landscaped property also features lovely annual blooming flowers and nature gardens—all ideal spots for reflection.

Personalized burial options

The many manicured gardens at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery provide private and peaceful locations for family and friends to remember loved ones. A walk down one of our winding paths reveals a range of interment options for in-ground burial as well as the Memorial Mission Mausoleum complex, columbaria, crypts, cremation niches and benches, and private and semiprivate estates.

The glass-front niches in Memorial Mission Mausoleum are a truly personal option for families. Unlike traditional granite tombstones, which usually list a person’s name and birth and death dates, glass-front niches allow for a display of life. Cremated remains are often held in containers that reflect a person's passions or personality, such as tobacco canisters, cookie jars or large baseballs designed for the purpose. Mementos such as jewelry, stuffed animals, photos and more are placed alongside the remains in the niches, telling a story.

Garden of Eternal Peace at Forest Park

Occupying close to 25 acres, the octagon-shaped Garden of Eternal Peace at Forest Park is the 1st feng shui-designed cemetery in Houston. With 4 pagoda entrances, all of which feature celestial animals, the garden offers a spiritual place for members of the Asian community to reflect and remember loved ones.

Hand-crafted stone from China and plantings are carefully and purposefully located to enhance the tranquil quality of qi throughout the garden. The Garden of Eternal Peace also features bench and walled estates, custom lots and estates, private mausoleums, individual flat and raised monument gardens, semiprivate and private estates, and space for a future cremation garden.

The water feature in the Garden of Eternal Peace is a circular fountain with 4 symbolic animals: a crane, fish, frog and duck. Bubbler fountains with stone pads collect no water at their bases on the 4 corners of the garden.

Community events

Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park and Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery extend an open invitation to the entire community to join us for community events held throughout the year.

A Memorial Day service honors the brave men and women who have given their lives to our country. Guests to this annual event are treated to moving speakers, musical acts that include singers and bagpipers and a stirring balloon release. Families of military service members are presented with roses and United States flags.

During the 1st week of November, we host a popular All Souls' Day service celebration. With help from local Catholic churches, priests recite the rosary. Following the service, all family members and clergy head out to the cemetery grounds and the priests bless the graves of loved ones with holy water.

No matter the religion, culture or belief, we know that December holidays can be a particularly emotional time for families who have lost loved ones. During a non-denominational Tree of Remembrance Service, we invite all families to join us as we celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost throughout the year and gain a sense of peace from the healing power of community. Guests to the Tree of Remembrance Service enjoy desserts and light refreshments, sing seasonal music and light candles in honor of those who have passed during the year.
